Studies on Methane Gas Hydrate Formation Kinetics Enhanced by Isopentane and Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Promoters for Seawater Desalination

Methane hydrate applications in gas storage and desalination have attracted increasing attention recent years. In the present work, effect of isopentane (IP), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), IP/SDS blends as promoters on methane formation kinetics, terms pressure–temperature (P-T) profile, uptake, induction time (HIT), water-to-hydrate conversion ratio (WHCR), were studied for distilled water seawater samples with an IP/water sample 3:10 (by volume) SDS/water 1:1000 mass). Each solution was tested a stirred tank at 600 rpm temperature pressure 2 °C 5.2–5.3 MPa. case water, highest WHCR attained 9.97% without additives, 45.71% 72.28% SDS respectively. However, when using salinity 3.9%, 2.26% additives 9.89% 18.03% IP promoters, respectively, indicating inhibiting formation. HIT longer formation, average 13.1 min compared to 9.90 Isopentane enhances by 2.23 times SDS. For seawater, presence shortened 15.6 promoters. Additionally, synergistic observed combined used systems. The positive is possibly due binary mechanism, which improves thermodynamic kinetic parameters.
